The terms “pressure washing” and “power washing” are often used interchangeably and, in all fairness, do appear to do the same job.
However, if you’re planning on doing some washing shortly, it’s recommended that you know the difference between the two, as they can impact the final result.
We explore the distinction between pressure washing and power washing.
Pressure Washing vs Power Washing
The confusion between the two options can easily be blamed on the fact that they both require a pressure cleaner. This pressure cleaner is able to wash down large surfaces by utilizing a high-pressure water spray. Therefore, from the outside, it appears that pressure washing and power washing are accomplishing the same task.
While this is technically true, the surface on which you want to clean needs to be taken into consideration.
The primary difference between pressure washing and power washing is heat. Power washing has a jet in its pressure cleaner, which heats the water. Pressure washing does not come with this feature, so the water is, therefore, the temperature of its water source.
The heated water makes for a more intense cleaner. This is ideal when you’re needing to tackle more grubby surfaces, such as ones with excess salt, compacted dirt, or oil stains.
Due to the severity of the spray, you must be mindful of the materials of which you’re cleaning.
Power washing parking lots or parkades would be a prime example of using this method. The concrete or cement ground would be able to handle the force, while the grime built up on the ground would require a more powerful spray.
Meanwhile, cleaning your deck would be a time to opt for pressure washing instead. Power washing would likely strip the paint, whereas pressure washing would simply take away the dirt.
Understanding the difference between the two methods of cleaning will allow you to be more successful in your cleaning efforts. Happy cleaning!
